In partnership with London Connected Learning Centre, our young parents have spent the past eight weeks taking part in a photography programme. Members of our weekly group for young parents and their children, which meets every Friday in Brockwell Park were invited to attend the extensive course, aiming to develop their skills in digital technology, whilst creating a project that holds meaning to them.
As an intern, it was my first time attending the weekly young parents group run by St. Michael's at Brockwell Park.
After an early morning trip to Tesco to pick up ingredients to feed 20, we headed over to Brockwell Park’s One O’Clock Club. The stereotypes of young parents portrayed in the media as anti-social and disorderly swirled in my mind. One look around the children’s centre made me realise I was deceived.
If you're a young mum or dad aged under 24 and are around on Fridays, drop in at our free group for people like you - a chance to make friends, prepare and share a delicious meal and find out more about how your child is growing and how you can give them the best support. Children love this group too - it's a chance to play with others and try out lots of different toys and activities.
Our Young Parents' Group takes place at Brockwell Park One O'Clock Club from 10.30am - 2.30 pm on Fridays.
We run a free weekly drop in group for expectant young parents, and young parents with newborns and babies up to 12 months.
It's a friendly space to find out more about pregnancy, birth and the needs of your newborn. Everyone has questions, and there's a chance to hear other people's concerns - they may be the same as yours!.
Topics covered include relationships, childcare, feelings, hormones, labour, child development, benefits and housing.
It's a relaxed environment where everyone is encouraged to contribute but no one is pressured to do so.
