Sophie's 2016 internship

I completed a ten week internship at St Michael’s as a second year Sussex student studying English and History. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and the wide variety of experience will be extremely useful in the future.

My duties focused on, but were not limited to, fundraising, including organising databases of donors and organising an upcoming event at the House of Commons, as well as helping create and plan a new film for the organisation and running the social media.

I was very lucky and able to also attend two days training at the web developing company in charge of St Michael’s new website, fundraising focused seminars and outreach service activities including the Young Parents’ Group and the summer trips.

All the staff at St Michael’s are very supportive and always available to help with any worries or queries and are keen for you to get the most out of your internship.

An added bonus for me has been knowing the work and effort I put in is helping those in need and will be benefiting the parents who use St Michael’s services.

My internship has enabled me to improve my skills in a number of areas, crucial to employment in the future, and I would recommend the experience to anyone interested in the charity sector, and/or media or marketing positions. I can’t believe my time here has come to an end, but I am so grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me that will improve my future prospects.
